Three Simple Ways to Energize Your Children’s Ministry
December 3rd, 2009In over 20 years of children’s ministry, the Lord has shown us some things about ministering to children.
As we’ve been preparing all the training materials for Superkid Academy I want to encourage you with three helpful tips that stood out to me.
- Bring in the Teens!: Children always look up to older kids, no matter what age they are. We’ve learned that involving fifth and sixth-grade leaders in our services has a wonderful effect on the younger children. The older kids really grow when given the opportunity to lead games, dramas and teaching.
- Invite parents to be “Kid for a Day”: It’s understandable for children’s church to fall into “need-based” recruiting when building a team. But that’s not the mindset here. At Eagle Mountain International Church, our prayer is “all the right people, in all the right places.” So simply invite parents to participate in class with no strings attached (except to participate and have fun!). You’ll see “the Lord build the house” in amazing ways.
- “Promote” people: Are there people on your team whose time is “up” (consistently late, strife within the team, negative words, etc.)? It might be time to have a talk and “promote” them. There are times and seasons for everything, so this is an opportunity to show love and be mindful of their best interests. Then trust God to bring the right people for this new season!
Any church can do all three this month, no matter what other resources you may or may not have.
