How’s the new job going, Superkid? Jesus is the best Boss ever, right? I personally love it that He fixes the things I mess up! Now that you’ve gotten to know the Boss, let’s talk about your training. Of course, as a Superkid, you know a lot about God, His Word and living this life as a Christian. But I’m about to challenge you to press in and go deeper—on purpose!
Let’s see where we are so far. We can use the scripture we read last month (March 2020 issue) as a training checklist. Romans 12:1-2, The Message: “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.”
check off:

  1. Continue DAILY to go to work (live your life) for Him!

“Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out!”

  1. Keep your attention on your Boss, Jesus. He’s here to help you. Wearing your “love clothes” will help you be like Him (Feb. 2020 issue).

Superkid, it’s early in the year, and you’ve already come so far! You are ready for the next level of job training. Read on!
“Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, which is always trying to drag you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you and develops well-formed maturity in you.”
When you focus your attention on Jesus, you’ll begin to know what He wants you to do. Our checklist will help you. Here is an example you can understand.
Have you ever been watching TV, playing outside or focusing on a video game when your parents told you to do something? You probably didn’t even hear them talking to you. Why? You were looking at and focused on something else. Did it surprise you when they corrected you for not obeying quickly? “But, Mom! I didn’t know you wanted me to do something!”
It’s so much easier to know what your parents want when you are looking at them and focusing on what they’re saying to you. It is the same with Jesus. When we continue to give Him our attention, He can easily instruct us as we’re doing things for Him every day!
You can even hear His instructions through your godly parents. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1-3 (New Living Translation):
Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
It may seem like life is all “take out the trash,” “clean your room,” “do your homework.” But really, your parents and leaders are training you to listen to and obey Jesus. Go back to what Romans 12 says, and let’s make this the next box on our training checklist:

  1. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and QUICKLY respond to it.

What do moms and dads say A LOT? “Slow obedience is no obedience!” And it’s true—true with parents and with Jesus. Superkid, He is asking us to be quick to hear Him and always listening. When we practice this with our parents, we are on the job with Jesus! This is part of our training, but not the only part.

  1. Jesus wants to lead you directly! He wants to even be the One who makes you ABLE to obey your parents.

It can feel hard to obey and honor our parents at times, but you are not supposed to do this without His help!
Galatians 2:20b, The Passion Translation, is an awesome truth!
“…the Anointed One lives his life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that he gave himself for me, and dispenses his life into mine.”
Jesus is living IN you! He is filling you up with His very own life! His abilities are YOUR abilities. As we press into the Jesus on the inside, He begins to show up on the outside. Superkid, by the time we talk again, you can put checkmarks on No. 3 and No. 4. In fact, because of Jesus, you can CHOOSE this “on the job training” with Him, and you can mark off No. 3 and No. 4 today!
When you work and live empowered by this wonderful Jesus, this checklist will become your everyday power and everyday joy because He is an EVERYDAY Savior, Teacher and BOSS!
