The Best Gift Ever!

Merry Christmas, Superkids!

YAY! It’s Christmas! Are you excited to see what’s in the packages under the tree? Or, maybe they’re hidden in your parents’ closet. But don’t go looking! Parents don’t like that! They like to keep some gifts top-secret until the last minute. In fact, I like to keep my family guessing about what the gifts might be. It’s fun to wrap something small in a HUGE box, just to throw them off! It would really be awesome if you could wrap something HUGE in a tiny box! I wish I could manage that! Coolest mom ever! Sound impossible? Maybe for normal parents, but there is one Parent who thought that was a great idea! Who do you think I mean?

You got it! Our Father God! Truly the best and COOLEST—EVER! Definitely the best Christmas gift hider—AND giver!

Our Father planned to give Jesus to the world (to you and me) before the world was ever created.

Ephesians 1:3-4 (The Message), says, “How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.”

God was going to send Jesus to the earth! Imagine, the ultimate Gift, God Himself coming to earth! But how would He do it? God can’t just show up on earth, can He? As people began to hear that God was coming, they imagined a King, riding on a white horse, coming to save the world and remove the enemy by force—a warrior King with battalions of angels behind Him who would wipe out the devil and all his followers. Sounds like a plan! But not God’s plan. He gave people clues about His plan through the prophets, but for thousands of years only a few understood what He was planning.

Isaiah 7:14 (New Living Translation), says: “All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” Wow! People probably thought that was impossible. God is so massive, so never ending! They were not expecting Him in the form of a child. ALL of God, in an itty-bitty baby? Only God could think of such a surprise packaging of Himself.

Have you ever wondered WHY He had to come as a baby? It was because of you and me. The Father wanted us to know, beyond any doubt, that just like this little baby named Jesus contains ALL of God, you and I can contain all of God. To be able to save you and me, Jesus had to come to earth just like you and me. It sounds so simple, but it’s true. There is nothing you face that He didn’t face too: no sickness, hurt, pain or struggle. There was no joy, love, laughter or grace that He walked in that we cannot have, because Jesus won the fight against the devil and He did it for us. Talk about Merry Christmas! The biggest gift ever wrapped in the smallest possible package.

I think the Christmas story in Luke 2 is like the most beautiful wrapping paper. And I think 1 John 4:9-10 is God’s gift tag with His message to us: “God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (NLT).

In fact, you could say that all of God’s Word, from Genesis to Revelation, is like wrapping paper. As you tear into it you begin to see what is in this package, sent straight from heaven with your name on it. Jesus. There He is. Best gift ever.

I just have one question, Superkid: Are you going to open this package? It’s so easy. John 3:16 (NLT), says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” And Romans 10:9-10 (NLT), says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”

Give Jesus the gift of YOU this Christmas and pray this with me:

“Father, I thank You for sending Your Son to earth to pay the price for me. Thank You for loving me as much as You love HIM! I accept Your gift! Jesus, come into my heart. I believe that God raised You from the dead, and I believe You now make me a child of God. Today, I make You the Lord of my life! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”

Now, talk about a Christmas party! Just like heaven rejoiced the day Jesus was born into the earth in Luke 2, the Bible says that when YOU prayed that prayer, all of heaven rejoiced! YOU have been born into the family of God today, Superkid! That makes YOU my best Christmas gift! ♥
